We welcome the 65th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW65), the largest annual meetings of United Nations on gender equality and women’s empowerment, that is held from 15 to 26 March with the title “The full and effective participation of women in decision-making processes and public life, as well as the elimination of violence, to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.”

As the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, has noted “harassment – either offline or online – and sexual abuse are human rights violations and abuses, a major barrier to women’s participation and leadership in all areas of public life, and a hostile environment.”

The participation of civil society organisations, especially organisations focusing on the protection of women’s digital rights and gender equality in the digital era, is needed due to the ongoing digitisation of the society.

As DATAWO, we will attend this year some sessions on gender-based violence online and digital gap between women and men. However, we hope next year we can actively participate, so that we can build a constructive dialogue and engage with all the relevant stakeholders.
