DATAWO closes one year of establishment and operation! A year ago, on 15 June 2021, we gave the legal form of the non-profit organisation to the project we started running in November 2020, DATAWO. DATAWO is an initiative we undertook in order to raise awareness of gender equality in the digital age in Greece.
In this context, we have organised two online events, the first one regarding the forms of gender-based violence in the digital age, and the second one regarding algorithmic bias and gender. Additionally, we also organised the first feminist programming workshop for women, Female Code Lab, which enabled women over the age of 18 years old to improve their digital skills around coding and make a first contact with programming. We are also running the project “DATAWO visits schools”, in the framework of which we visit schools and inform high school students about the forms of gender-based violence and the ways of protection.
Moreover, we ran the project “A feminist dictionary in AI” in the Mozilla Foundation’s Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence Working Group. Last but not least, we participate in the project “Safe at Work” in collaboration with ActionAid Hellas, Women on Top, the Research Committee of Panteion University and the Hellenic Human Resources Management Association.
In addition to the informative events, we participate and do research on relevant topics, while we build a network of collaborations at national, European and international level.
A few words from us about our first birthday anniversary..
-Anastasia: I am very happy that we are closing a full year of operation. I am glad that we work with very reputable organisations, we grow our network, enrich our knowledge and experience in the field, and above all ,we offer legal information to people who need it.
I envision a digital society that is inclusive for all people, regardless of their gender, transcending the bilateral gender distinction between females and males. This is what DATAWO aims for me!
-Anthi: I am very proud of DATAWO, this creation full of empathy for the creatures of the world, willfulness, and fighting spirit. I deeply believe in DATAWO. I know that in the course DATAWO will write her own story that will mean change and light. Thanks to those who trusted us in our very first steps!
